Why Houston Demands More Than Standard HVAC Houston’s climate is unlike anywhere else in the country. Our hot summers and love of air conditioning, combine with extreme humidity from the Gulf and pollen/pollution from all directions to create demanding conditions from multiple perspectives. When you add in constant traffic pollution, emissions from local refineries, and high mold levels, good indoor air quality becomes a real challenge and often a mechanically modified necessity. Modern high-efficiency air conditioners are excellent at lowering temperature (sensible cooling), but they remove far less moisture (latent cooling) than older units did (all in the name of saving energy) dehumidification . Unfortunately, this left humidity holding the bag. This shift in sensible heat ratio often leaves homes feeling clammy and uncomfortable — even when the thermostat reads 72 °F. That’s why we go beyond basic heating and cooling.
